2010 Perennial of the Year

(designated by Perennial Plant Association)

Baptisia australis

Baptisia australis

This perennial is highly prized as it is easy to grow in well-drained soil, and is very drought tolerant once it is established.

  • spring flowering
  • Hardiness – Zones 3 to 9
  • Size – approximately 3-4'h x 3-4'w
  • Light – full sun
  • Soil – well-drained soil

This vivid, low-maintenance sun perennial looks great with its shrub-like habit. It is best as a specimen plant, or in a small group planting.
Note: Due to its long tap root it should not be moved once established, but will provide years of enjoyment.
