We have them available at a store location near you...

It's time to get growing...
your own food, that is!

We want to help you with the rewarding hobby of growing your own vegetables and herbs. So, we have created a set of "Urban Farmer" resources just for you. We offer advice on growing a successful vegetable garden, including: sunlight requirements, watering, soil, and more!

There is also a listing of cold-tolerant vegetable crops, that actually prefer to grow in cooler weather, so visit us soon to get growing your own veggies!

Field Trip!

Gardening is a healthy, wholesome, activity for children (adults, too) to do outside, and we would like to help your children discover this rewarding experience, so...

We are very excited to announce a new program of field trips for children from 3 to 10 years of age! We are offering these field trip experiences to our community locations in the Chicago area for pre-schools, elementary schools, home-school students, church groups, scout groups, day camps, and birthday parties for children. We can accommodate groups as small as 5, or as large as 25. Adult chaperones are required to stay with the group and are always free!

There are 3 gardening experience options for the spring season:

  • Our "Fun With Flowers!" experience focuses on types of flowers (annuals, biennials, and perennials) flower parts, and planning a flower garden. This educational event includes a tour, lesson in flower gardening, a potted flower plant to take home, & coloring/activity book.
  • Our "Grow Your Favorite Veggies!" field trip experience focuses on types of vegetables that grow in our area, how to plant and grow different vegetables, planning a vegetable garden or herb container garden. This educational event includes a tour, lesson in vegetable gardening, a potted vegetable plant to take home, & coloring/activity book.
  • Our "Pick A Pot & Plant it!" experience focuses on creating a beautiful container garden full of flowers and accent plants, considering sunshine, watering, color schemes, and design. This one is great fun for children's parties! This interactive event includes a detailed lesson in container gardening, a tour of container plant options, an individually created flower container garden (including pot) to take home, & a container garden care sheet.
